The Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) joined other emergency services in answering a huge number of calls for assistance in June and July, when widespread flooding affected many parts of the country, during one of the wettest summers on record.

London calling – a new control centre

The Government’s FiReControl project reached a significant milestone in October, with the announcement that the new London Regional Control Centre (RCC) will be located in Merton, in south west London. The London RCC is the last of the nine centres to be confirmed and puts the final piece of the network into place.

New Dimension

All hands to the pumps – cross border exercise in Hampshire

Fire and rescue crews, from five counties in southern England, joined with refinery fire response teams for an emergency exercise at Esso Fawley, the largest refinery in the UK. Crews from Hampshire, Dorset, Berkshire, Surrey and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Services took part in rehearsing the response to a large scale incident.
