Community Fire and Road Safety

In the past, the Fire and Rescue Service was seen mainly as a reactive emergency response service. Nowadays, the FRS places as much emphasis on prevention and risk reduction as it does on responding to emergency incidents. Many fire and rescue services are also doing an increasing amount of work to promote road safety.

This section examines some of the work being done in these areas and at the successes that fire and rescue services have been enjoying.

Fire Kills in any language

Kevin Aiston, a British-born fire-fighter who moved to Poland 16 years ago, fronts the new Fire Kills campaign aimed at the growing Polish community living in the UK. He features on the Fire Kills posters, pop-up banners and leaflet dispensers that will be distributed through key Polish networks and organisations.

Hitting the bullseye

The Fire Kills campaign has found an innovative way to get fire safety messages across to a different audience. By sponsoring the British Darts Organisation’s (BDO) International Grand Prix of Darts, people at the tournaments and watching on television will be reminded of the importance of fire safety in the home.
