Comprehensive Performance Assessments

Comprehensive Performance Assessments - a review of the performance of each fire and rescue authority - is a key way of driving improvements in the Fire and Rescue Service.

CPA assesses how a fire and rescue authority is managed - it isn't an assessment of the operational performance of FRSs. The CPA process is carried out by the Audit Commission.

CPAs and improvement planning

The FRS is using the outcomes from each Service's CPA (Comprehensive Performance Assessment) report to plan improvements. Depending on priorities identified, this may provide new opportunities for staff training and development.
